When shaping and cutting materials into different sizes and shapes, people use various materials among which are sandblasts. There is a wide range of sandblast materials the common ones being; glass beads, silica sand, aluminum oxide, plastic, coal slag, corncobs, pumice, baking soda and crushed glass grit. Depending on their make, their functions vary from one type to the other. Consequently, it is important to know the common types of Los Angeles sand blasting materials available.

Aluminum oxide is among the toughest sandblasting materials available. Due to its hard nature, aluminum cuts metals more quickly and with minimal production of dust. The good thing with aluminum oxide is its ability to produce anchor-shaped designs or matte-looking finish on metal surfaces. People prefer it when working with hard metal surfaces due to it hardiness and minimal production of dust.

Coal slag is as well available and one of the commonly used sandblast media. Coal slag is generated from power plants to be utilized when maintaining and repairing metals. Due to it being non-abrasive, people consider it when making microdermabrasion on metal structures. Even with all these benefits, coal slag is costly and hard to find.

Other common materials available are glass beads and grits. These materials are mostly recyclable which make them economical and easier to use. Normally, the slickness of the surface created by use of glass beads and glass grits depend on the size of the glass particles. Glass beads and grits are mostly utilized when cleaning calcium accumulations in swimming pools and hot tubs.

Plastic grits and pumice are other sandblasting materials available that come in different sizes and shapes. These synthetic media are utilized to strip the surfaces of various products to restore their standard look and make more appealing to human eyes. The materials are mostly soft and do not damage the interior layer of the paint finishes on metal surfaces.

Corncobs are also common types of sandblasting materials. Corncobs are designed to be utilized on woods to clean structures like homes, fences and barns before the application of paints. These are also ideal when cleaning surfaces that have been affected by smoke damages, grease and other materials. People can also use it to polish thin metals like the ones in springs, jewelry and engine components.

You can also consider using silica for your sandblast project. Silica sand is usually cheap and effective even though it creates high levels of dust. However, when using silica sand, you may be at high risks of lung disease. It is for this reason that people consider it life threatening hence its use is prohibited in some states.

Walnut shells are other ideal materials that are utilized to create biodegradable sandblasting media grits. People prefer walnut shell because it is cheap and relatively very effective when polishing and cleaning sensitive materials. People mostly use these materials to clean aircraft turbines, car parts, electronics and historical architectural structures. The materials are also essential when cleaning and restoring surfaces like marble, stone, molds, rusts and removing graffiti.
